There’s often a lot of anxiety from parents when they are booking a newborn session because they wonder what will happen if their baby doesn’t sleep. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s O.K.!

If Baby Won’t Sleep

The first thing I want parents to know when they ask me what will happen if their little bundle of joy has zero interest in sleeping is… That’s completely fine!

My approach to photography is very stress-free and relaxed. I do not pose babies in ways that require them to be super sleepy. There has been a trend in newborn photography to do intricate poses on babies, and to do this, they need to be VERY sleepy. I, on the other hand, love to capture babies in my photos the way that they are… even eyes wide open!

What if My Baby is Fussy?

Even if your little one is fussy and needing some cuddles and calming down, that is easily taken care of in the studio. Mamas and Daddies are always welcome to feed their babies, cuddle their babies, use pacifiers, and change diapers during the session.

Also, the room has a small heater to keep babies warm. The heater is MAGICAL. Babies often just want to be warm and feel snug… which leads me to my next trick. Swaddling. Swaddling babies really does comfort them, and so when a baby is fed and changed and still feeling fussy, a swaddle typically does the trick! And, babies in a swaddle are SUPER cute. Often, the baby falls right asleep once swaddled.
