What Do We Wear to a Newborn Session? | Frederick Newborn Photographer | Katie Ballantine Photography
One of the most common questions I receive is “What do we wear to our newborn session?”. Often times, parents are thinking they need to find a bunch of cute outfits for their newborn, which is the last thing they have time to be doing! And the thought of multiple outfits and outfit changes is a nightmare.
Well, I have good news!
The answer is, your baby needs NOTHING for their newborn session with me! SAY WHAT?!
My style of newborn photography is very organic and neutral, and the best thing your baby can wear, is absolutely nothing. Of course, bring them dressed in something in the car to keep them warm. But, once you arrive, I work on getting them out of the carseat without waking them too much, use a small heating fan, and wrap them up in my soft, beautiful swaddling blankets and wraps.
Your baby is beautiful just the way they are, so I honestly prefer no outfits or distracting props and colors.
BUT KATIE… WHAT ABOUT US?!
I have good news for you too! If you want to be in the images with your new baby (which I definitely recommend!), wear something white, light gray, tan or cream colored. I’ve had dads show up in just a white undershirt, and it’s perfect. Moms, wear a white tank and borrow one of my lacy shirts to put on top. It’s that easy. No patterns, no colors, no matching outfits, no color coordinating, no logos… easy peasy.
Here are some examples of my organic studio newborn sessions to give you an idea of what to expect!
