What is Lifestyle Photography?

Lifestyle photography is one of the styles I have been using in my business for the last 13 years. The biggest difference between lifestyle and traditional portrait photography is the laid back feel. Instead of having everyone posed in a perfect position and looking at the camera with their best smiles, families interact with one another for joyful images that show genuine smiles and relationships.

As a photographer that works mostly with babies and children, I know how hard and stressful it can be to think about the perfect picture and getting your child to cooperate with a real smile. This is why I have taken the lifestyle approach to all of my photography.

Do I Have to be at Home for a Lifestyle Session?

Nope! While I do love capturing families in their own homes where children feel comfortable, I do also know that the idea your own home can be overwhelming. You may feel like your decor will change over time and date your images. You may feel like you don’t have much light in your home, and photography requires light.

I have a neutral home studio for my clients to use for their portraits. We can still achieve natural, lifestyle look while using a place other than your own home. I have a big window area in my studio as a light source, and I have a natural light wooden floor, cream walls, and neutral tones. This ensures that your images will be timeless and will go with any decor in your home for hanging your images.

What if my Kids Aren’t Behaving?

Children and toddlers are so much fun for me to work with. I have an Early Childhood Education degree and taught both PreK and Kindergarten before becoming a photographer. I’m also a mother of three, so I’ve been through all of the different stages. I love children and have lots of fun tricks up my sleeve for working with them.
