Natural Studio Photography Benefits

Natural studio photography has so many benefits over home and outdoor photography. Of course, there’s always certain reasons to have sessions outdoors or in your home, but today I am going over all the benefits of a NATURAL STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHER.

Timeless Look

Natural studios are typically set up with light colored walls and light flooring instead of fake backdrops. Having that neutral environment lets the session really focus on your new baby and your family. The light colored walls and floors also makes sure your pictures are always timeless.

You can always hang up pictures with natural/neutral colors on walls in any home and with any wall colors. These newborn portraits will be beautiful in your home for years. Photographers who use fake backdrops typically are using trendy backdrops or colors that go out of style quickly. You may even have newborn photos from a few years ago taken on a trendy backdrop that is no longer “in style”.

Easier for Siblings and Children

If you have a toddler or small child, you know how hard it can be to try to get them to sit on a backdrop in a typical studio setting. They will face the wrong way, or they will be half on and half off the paper, or they will push on the back thinking it’s a real wall, or they will straight up refuse to go on the backdrop.

When outdoors or at home, children often try to run off and play instead of being near their baby sibling. It can be extremely difficult to “force” a toddler or child to actually be in the photos in a way that works well.

These problems are completely fixed with a natural studio. The family is confined to the studio room, where children can play with wooden toys that are pretty in pictures. Every single area of the studio will be suitable for your pictures. Every wall is the correct color, every part of the floor is real, and every wall is real. Siblings can easily choose a spot they want to be in and it will work for the portraits.

Lighting

Sessions taken in a natural studio use the same light the entire session. Whether your session uses window light or a studio light, it will be consistent during the entire time.

However; when doing a session at home, photographers typically move from room to room, which changes the lighting. This can mean you won’t have consistent lighting throughout all of your images. Lighting affects the color of images, the lightness/darkness of images, shadows and highlights on faces, etc… Outdoor lighting is also tricky when the clouds are moving in front of the sun and back off again, or family members have direct light on their faces. Side lighting is best for outdoor portraits, however, the location may not have the prettiest backdrop when facing the correct way for the light.

Props, Outfits and Accessories

Another major advantage of having a natural studio session is having props, outfits, wraps, accessories, etc… available for your use. When traveling to your home, a photographer will typically bring along a few things to use, but you won’t have access to their entire stash of fabrics, headbands, outfits, blankets, or props.
