In-Home vs. Studio Newborn Sessions
At Katie Ballantine Photography, I offer both in-home newborn sessions and studio newborn sessions. Today, I’ll be writing about the difference between these two newborn portrait options.
In-Home Sessions
Many families love the idea of staying in the comfort of their own home for a newborn portrait session. In-home sessions are very lifestyle and documentary in nature. This means, instead of setting a small studio in your home, I’ll use areas around the house to take the pictures.
Some of my favorite spots in people’s homes include the master bedroom bed, the nursery, the family room, and anywhere with big windows and lots of light.
The pictures that come from an in-home session show a lot of connection and relationships between the people in the home and the newborn and also show your home itself. Siblings and parents are in the pictures, which I think is really important. However, I also take images of just the baby, including full body shots, lightly and naturally posed shots, and closeups (toes, eyelashes, lips).
Studio Newborn Sessions
Studio sessions are a bit different than in-home sessions because of the look of the studio. The types of images taken are actually very similar. Parents and siblings are still included in the images, and poses are natural.
My studio has white, creamy walls, a natural looking floor, white curtains, and a white futon/bed setup. The light atmosphere and gorgeous natural light really allow your baby to be the main focus of the images. These pictures will be timeless, organic, and natural.
One of the bonuses of using the studio is all of the items I have for your use. When you arrive at my studio, you’ll find adorable delicate bows, bonnets, wraps, blankets, antique cradles, baskets, fluff for texture interest and even some outfits.
Whether you choose an in-home or a studio session, you will be in love with the portraits of your new little bundle of joy. I can’t wait to work with you!
