• Newborn Boy

Newborn Boy In the Studio Sweet ZJ and his family came to see me this week for his newborn portraits, and he was such a dream! This cute little man is just over 3 weeks old, but he rocked his session. He had some of the best eye contact I’ve ever seen from a newborn, and he was sure to look right at my camera lens! Below you’ll find some of my favorites from ZJ’s session.

  • Mommy & Me Session | Frederick Baby & Child Photographer

Since Mother’s Day is in May, I always love to have “Mommy and Me” sessions in the studio. It’s especially a special time when grandmothers come along for the portraits. I had three generations in my studio last week, and I am so in love with the images. The interactions between mothers and their babies are so beautiful. Images are shot on both digital and Fuji400H film.

  • In-Home Newborn Session | Baby Kinnon | Katie Ballantine Photography

I spent a day last weekend with the sweetest family of four. They had recently welcomed their newest baby boy to the family, and they reached out for an in-home newborn session. I love using people’s homes for newborn sessions. I get a chance to capture images of the nursery, special blankets and toys, snuggles on the bed, and images in a variety of rooms. Kinnon is the cutest little guy, and his big brother is loving his new role. Images are captured on Fuji400H film and digital.

  • Cloudy & Rainy Days and Newborn Portraits | Frederick Newborn Photographer | Katie Ballantine Photography

Both in-home and studio newborn portraits can be beautifully lit when Mother Nature brings us the perfect weather. But, what happens when there are clouds, rain, or storms on your scheduled newborn session day?? How I Beat the Dark Days on Newborn Session Days Thankfully, even on dark and rainy days, I am able to produce beautifully lit and cheerful images. Have a nursery with only one window? No problem! Pesky tree covering your front bedroom window? I’ve got this! I have spent years perfecting my style, and one of the tools I have learned to use over the years is strobe lighting. Now, you may think you know what…

  • Snowed In With Cousins | Frederick Child Photographer | Katie Ballantine Photography | Film Photographer

All images were shot on my Contax645 film camera with Fuji400H film. Processed and developed by Photovision. Last week we had gorgeous 60-70 degree weather, and then a snow storm in the forecast. It was hard to believe we’d actually get any snow, but as the weekend got closer, more and more snow was being predicted. Unfortunately, we had to cancel some plans to travel to see my grandmother. However; since we were going to be stuck at home, we decided letting the cousins have a sleepover and get snowed in together would be a blast. The storm didn’t disappoint! There was plenty of snow for playing!
